A BEAUTIFUL elegant living space is how Danielle Rushton describes her much-loved family home to SUSAN GOODSON.

Inside there is so much room that the grown-ups can have the bottom floor to themselves while the children and their friends can play safely upstairs.

Her home is frequently filled with children thanks to the friends of daughters Dulcie, nine, and Poppy, seven.

The house - Thistle House, Foxfield Road, Broughton - is a detached home with gardens and a garage.

Inside are five bedrooms, three reception rooms, three bathrooms and a breakfast kitchen. Outside at the front of the slightly elevated property is an ample gentle inclined tarmac drive, perimeter slate walling, parking for three cars and a safe gated access to both sides of the property. To the back is a delightful garden with a good degree of privacy. Having been landscaped, there are two level areas of lawn, with a slate-faced retaining wall and a patio of mixed Indian shaded and Burlington blue.

Although Danielle loved the house when they bought it she did make considerable changes.

She explained: “We loved that the house was detached and I did love the layout, but changed it to improve its flow out into the garden.

“The back garden is lawn with flower beds and a wall around it. It is an old walled garden with its own micro-climate, warm and sheltered from the wind, so everything you plant really takes off.

“We have had lots of barbecues out there and huge parties in the house. It is such a good house to entertain in.

“It has big windows and one wall of the dining area looking out to the garden is all glass so the house is flooded with natural light.

“It is such an elegant grown-up living space and is laid out so that when the children have their friends around they can go upstairs and not interfere with the adults, especially if they are staying the weekend.

“I have family living abroad so when they come to stay they are usually here for a month, but we have three reception rooms and five bedrooms so there is plenty of space. We did add the fifth bedroom upstairs.

“The children especially love the room which is really quirky and they both wanted it as their bedroom. Downstairs there is an entrance hall, a reception room, the master bedroom and en-suite, the dining room, breakfast kitchen, a second bedroom, the family bathroom and a utility room. There is under floor heating and solid oak floors.

A central stairway off the wide hallway leads to three further bedrooms, the second bathroom and the third reception room/gallery office. The house was given a brand new kitchen which is designed to cater for Danielle’s specific requirements.

She said: “I hate any clutter on the work surfaces in a kitchen, it is one of my pet hates, so there is a pantry through double doors where equipment like the microwave are kept and it has food preparation areas.

“The house was only built in 2007 and everything has been finished to such a high standard even the family bathroom is stunning. This is a really easy house to live in.”

Moving from Brighton to Broughton was a big move, but Danielle says it has created a wonderful life for her and Dulcie and Poppy.

She added: “There is so much going on here and you can live in Broughton without a car. There is a butcher, deli and bakery, café and pubs.

“We have a film club and now there is even a children’s film club starting on Saturdays.

“There are really good schools and the children are so happy in theirs. Broughton is a real community and I have a horse and they have a pony.”

Danielle absolutely loves her house and her neighbours, but is now ready to sell and go mortgage-free but stay in her adopted village.

She loves Broughton too much to leave it, especially because of the life the friendly and supportive community provide herself and her daughters.
