A BIG house with gardens and the added extra of having its own annexe has been home to Jeff and Rebecca for the last 14 years, as SUSAN GOODSON found out.

JEFF and Rebecca were completely wowed by their house which combines the benefits of a modern home, while retaining plenty of character. Situated in a quiet street with some homes offering just a peek of themselves from their hiding places set back from the road with gardens and trees.

Others are more obvious but still with attractive garden fronts offering privacy from passers-by.

On an early sunny evening this is a quiet haven for anyone coming home from a long day at work.

The house, 27 Wheatclose Road, Barrow, is a impressive semi-detached home with a beautifully developed private annex, situated in a sought after residential area and offered in immaculate condition throughout.

To the front of the house is a garden front with block paved drive access, inside is a vestibule, entrance hall, lounge, living room, kitchen and to the first floor three bedrooms and a bathroom.

At the back of the property is a private garden with decked seating area and paved patio. The garden gives access to a private annex complete with kitchen area with sink, shower room with WC and living room with electric fire. The annex can be used for a variety of potential uses, such as office, flat, study, children’s play room or dual living for a teenager.

Asked about the things they most love about their house and the list comes easily. Jeff explained: “It is unique for me because of it being such a modern house but still having so much character.

“We love the layout of the rooms, the private garden at the back which gets sun all day, we are not overlooked and I converted the garage into the annexe which has so many uses. It is the perfect place for teenagers to have friends over. It has a sofa bed, a kitchen area and living space.

“We have five children between us, although Amy and Mitchell are the only two still at home, and they use it all the time.

“The older children use it a lot when they come back to visit.

"We also use it when we have friends around and we can cook out there while people sit in the garden. We use it a lot when we have barbeques.

“It even has its own shower room and WC so is completely independent.

“If you had an elderly relative it would be so handy or as a study for someone working from home. Rebecca does work at home as a beauty therapist and thanks to the double gates opening into the back garden clients don’t have to come through the house.”

Inside their home, there is so much natural light coming in through the eye-catching windows with their stain glass detailing.

Jeff added: “There are two living rooms and we use the back room a lot with its double glazed door leading out into the garden. On summer evenings it is such a nice place to sit.

“The front lounge has a beautiful feature fireplace which is coal effect living flame.”

Another beautiful feature of this front lounge is the large window with its leaded glass features.

Jeff and Rebecca had new flooring put through the house, central heating and a new boiler installed which is still under guarantee.

Jeff said: “I work as a gas and boiler man so I know the importance of having the best.”

Upstairs are the three bedrooms with a lovely big double master bedroom with built-in cupboards. It is also impossible to miss the large window with its ornate leaded glass details.

The other two bedrooms are good sizes and the third is also blessed with its own leaded glass window.

The family bathroom is another modern room with both a bath and separate shower cubicle with a rainfall shower head.

This much cared for family home needs nothing done to it when the new owners walk in the door.

Jeff and Rebecca are selling because they are ready for a change and want a new project to work on. The house, 27 Wheatclose Road, Barrow, is on the market with Ross Estate Agencies for offers in the region of £289,950.
