Claire and Alan Williamson have spent the last five years enjoying the sunny gardens and the generous living space inside their Barrow home

ONE of the most distinctive features of Alan and Claire Williamson’s property only shows itself in the spring and is either the result of a very clever gardener or simply the work of mother nature.

When the beautiful cherry tree in the front garden blooms half of the blossoms are white while the other side is pink - whatever the reason this happens, it makes for a wonderful sight.

The lovely south facing garden at the front is overlooked by a church so the property is very quiet and private. The privacy is further boosted as the whole house is in an elevated position so no-one walking past can see in.

It also means that the front lounge with its bay windows looking out to the sunny garden has proved to be a very popular room to sit and relax in, especially for Alan.

It has a feature fire surround with black granite-style hearth and coved ceiling.

The living room has double glazed patio doors leading out into the back garden.

The whole property has had to cope with the needs of the couple’s two children, Toby and Charlotte, as well as two working parents.

The house - 45 Harrel Lane, Barrow - is in a highly sought-after residential location and is an immaculate semi-detached home which has been very well maintained throughout. The property has off-road parking for vehicles at the front and a front garden area and access to the garage.

The accommodation is made up of an entrance hall, bay-windowed lounge, living room, kitchen and to the first floor there are three bedrooms and a bathroom.

There is an enclosed, lawned garden at the back with a summer house and a good sized garage with power and light.

Talking about the house, Alan said: “We knew there were things we wanted to change, but we still wanted the house and liked that it was semi-detached.

“We made the drive wider so we could easily fit two cars on it and rebuilt the wall to support the garden.

“We have always used the back garden a lot and put in decking and a big trampoline for the children. We have had lots of garden parties out there.

"We also had the house completely rewired and a new fuse box fitted so that if we ever extended the house, everything would have the capacity to deal with the extra pressure.

“We replastered the ceilings and walls inside, updated the central heating and put power in the garage.”

Throughout the house there are double the usual number of plug sockets, as well as lowered wall light switches, in line with EU standards and making them wheelchair friendly.

The house has a smart meter, which means no-one has to come in to read the gas or electricity as they can be accessed remotely.

In 2012 they had new double glazing put in. Despite the already generous living space, Alan and Claire did get planning permission to extend the house further because there is so much potential in the loft area to create an almost independent living space.

Alan added: “We have such good neighbours and it has been a wonderful family home for us in such a nice part of Barrow, but with the children growing up and changes in our lives we are ready to move on.”
