NAOMI Mills was an extremely happy woman when she was finally handed the keys to her own home. As she told SUSAN GOODSON it was a great feeling as a first-time buyer to be able to walk in the door of a home with so much space and in such a welcoming neighbourhood

BEING able to buy her own home was a nice pay-off after all Naomi Mills' hard work at university and life in rented accommodation. For the last decade it has been the site of many wonderful changes in the staff nurse’s life, including becoming home to firefighter husband of eight years, Tom, and then their daughter, Summer, now seven.

It is hard to ignore the kitchen because of its generous size with plenty of space for a dining table but the fact that it had a conservatory or garden room was the big selling point for Naomi.

The house - 4 Kent Street, Barrow - is an extended mid terrace with two reception rooms, a kitchen diner, two double bedrooms, a three-piece shower room and insulated loft.

Outside in the yard there are three outbuildings; one used as a utility, another as a WC and the third as handy storage space - and still there is space to sit and relax in the sun.

With its big window looking out on to the street outside, the lounge of the Mills family home is flooded with natural light, a bonus for most people but not for one home owner.

Naomi explained: “The room gets plenty of natural light, but I am photo sensitive so we have had to install a blackout blind as well as regular curtains.

“The thing that really sold the house to me was what I call the conservatory, which leads out into the yard but it has had quite a few uses during the years we have been here. At times it has been a conservatory with cane furniture, other times I have used it as an office but at the moment I have a table in it rather than in the kitchen.”

It is a lovely relaxing space with a polycarbonate roof which allows in natural light and also has an attractive tiled floor and handy double radiator.

“The kitchen is such a good size there is plenty of space for a dining room suite although we don’t have one in there and there is also space for a fridge freezer,” she added.

The kitchen has a nice range of modern oak-effect units with brass handles, black laminate work surfaces and white splashback. With two double bedrooms, the house has easily catered to the needs of a growing family with plenty of safe room for an active little girl.

Naomi said: “In the yard the buildings are all brick and have plenty of potential to be converted by the new owner for other uses.

"The yard itself gets a lot of sun and is really nice to sit out in.

“Our neighbours are so friendly and were welcoming from the start.

"The house is in a great location, handy for the shops and the buses. We have loved living here but now we want to buy a home we have chosen together and we would like a garden.”

The one thing that neither of this Barrow-born couple wish to change is the area they live in. They are keen to stay put they love it so much.
