HAVING to move for work can be a bit more stressful than moving for personal reasons. But as Harriet Davis explained to SUSAN GOODSON, for her and partner Kyle Bateson it has turned out so well they would happily take their home with them, now that for family reasons, they are on the go again

THEIR new house fitted Harriet Davis and Kyle Bateson perfectly, but six weeks after moving in a big surprise changed their lives and meant it also had to fit those of a third very special person.

The couple became parents to the now 17-month-old Amelia Rose.

Harriet’s home town is Heysham while Kyle is from Kirkby Lonsdale, but work meant they ended up in a new town and a new build home. They had liked the idea of a brand new house and the one which caught their eye was also in a great location, near the town facilities and handy for work.

Their home - 148 Holker Street, Barrow - is a superb family house with a kitchen diner and downstairs WC, spacious lounge, three good-sized bedrooms (one with an en-suite) and a separate family bathroom.

Outside there is a forecourt with a dwarf wall and paved front, a detached garage with up and over door and loft space, off-road parking and to the back a well-sized sunny garden with lawn and a patio area.

Describing their home, Harriet said: “We have kept it a bit of a blank canvas except for adding floorings and carpets and made it a bit more homely.

“Our three bedrooms are good sizes and even Amelia Rose’s room is a proper bedroom not a box room.

“The first double bedroom looks out over the front of the house and has its own three-piece en-suite which includes a shower, while the second double room looks over the back lawn and the third bedroom, with its own fitted blinds, could be a nursery, study, single room or an office for anyone wanting to work from home.

“Along with the en-suite there is a proper family bathroom and a downstairs toilet which is handy when you have visitors or family come to stay.

“We also like the garden, which is a good size, and although we haven’t done anything with ours, you can see what our neighbours have achieved and they are really nice.

“As we both work full time, which includes Kyle travelling to Kendal each day, and we have a young child, gardening was not really something we thought about.

“It is all fenced with locked gates at the front so no-one can get in and small children can’t get out.”

The family spent a lot of time in the lounge and it is one of Harriet's favourite parts of the house.

“It is a modern and open plan lounge so that you can walk through to the kitchen diner; it also has an understairs cupboard.

“The kitchen has a window looking out the back and double-glazed French doors which open out to the garden so Amelia Rose can go out and play and come back in whenever she wants.

“The garage was another essential for us, but the area has turned out to be not just handy for everything, but there has never been any bother or trouble here.

“We do love our house and if we could we would take it with us but obviously we can’t.

“We are moving back to Heysham because a lot of my family are there and it will be good for Amelia Rose.”
