WHAT started out as a two-bedroomed home with a massive garden has practically doubled in size in the hands of Lora and Aron Allonby but, as SUSAN GOODSON discovered, it still has plenty of outside space with great views.

ALTHOUGH Lora and Aron Allonby knew the house as it stood was too small for their family, its location and huge garden sold it to them.

And in the 10 years since it came into their hands, they have extended the living space to create a beautiful home with plenty of living space for their family.

The house - 4 Long Lane, Barrow - is an extended, modern, semi-detached home with extensive lawned garden at the back and open outlook. Situated on the outskirts of Dalton, but classified as Barrow, this is the perfect family home that has it all.

The spacious living space is made up of an entrance porch, hallway, ground floor bathroom, super-sized lounge and conservatory, extended kitchen with central island, family/play room and four bedrooms (with en-suite to the master).

Outside there is a driveway giving ample off-road parking and an extensive back garden which is mostly laid to lawn and has a decked balcony.

Lora and Aron were happy to take on the project of buying a home they knew needed to be extended and it has really paid off with living space that suits their needs and those of their children Caitlyn, Ollie, Amy, William, Alice and Ellen.

Talking about their home, Lora said: “We knew we would have to extend the house, but we loved the garden, the views and the fact that you feel out in the country but are just 10 minutes from Ulverston and five minutes from Barrow. Although it is classed as Barrow we think of it as Dalton, plus we are five minutes from school.

“There is just a cluster of houses here and it is so quiet and safe for the children.”

By having the house extended the Allonby family ended up with two more bedrooms, a playroom, a massive kitchen and a conservatory.

Lora said: “We did everything to the house, including getting a new bathroom and kitchen, putting in oak flooring in the living room, new carpets and block paving the drive.

“I do love my massive kitchen. It has a central island and seated breakfast bar and an integrated dish washer.

“We use the conservatory as a dining room and it has French doors going out to the garden.”

The conservatory is large enough to have the dining table at one end and a comfortable seating area at the other.

The much-used family/play room is really versatile thanks to its laminate flooring with a built-in cupboard which houses the washing machine and dryer. The family bathroom includes a large luxury oval bath with shower head and full tiling on the walls and floor.

Of the four bedrooms, three are double and the first, which is also en-suite.

When it comes to the garden, Lora said: “It is actually an L-shaped garden and a very safe area for the children to play.

“We have a decked area, the children’s trampoline, a Wendy house, fruit trees, a vegetable patch and a big lawn surrounded by hedges. It is very private and peaceful.

“We love the house and there is so much space that even though there are eight people living here it never feels as though we are getting on top of each other.

“It is a lovely little community here and we are sad to go, but we are ready for a new challenge and, after 10 years, a change.”

The house - 4 Long Lane, Barrow - is on the market with Cumberland Estate Agents for the asking price of £299,950.
