HAVING visited friends in The North, David and Shelley Smith could not resist its attraction and the beauty of the countryside.

They made the move from The South to Millom after finding the perfect home in the shape of 98 Lowther Road.

Despite there only being the two of them, they wanted a property with plenty of living space.

That is exactly what they found at the top of a popular cul-de-sac when they came across a four-bedroomed, spacious family home.

In summary, the house has a lounge-diner, kitchen, conservatory, utility room, four bedrooms of which one is en suite and a family bathroom.

Outside there is off-road parking for two cars with a paved bench area, an integral garage, and access to the back garden from both sides of the house. To the back is a paved and split-level garden with a shed, mature borders and lovely views across the town and the fells beyond.

Asked what attracted them to the house and David reels off a list, including the fact that it has four bedrooms, is spacious, well appointed right at the top of a quiet cul-de-sac, has a garage and, for them, was just the whole package.

He added: “We had come from The South to retire and loved the privacy of the house. Because there are bungalows around, you are not overlooked by anyone and the house is very light because it is not overshadowed.

“The house is so light and airy and the views from the back of the house are absolutely beautiful; you can see Black Combe and it so relaxing just sitting there looking out at the fields.

“The garden is what I call low maintenance because that is my outlook on life - I want to sit out on the patio and relax; we are not into gardening.

“Inside, the house has been decorated in neutral colours, not because they say that makes it easier to sell, but because we came here to retire and neutral colours are what we like as a couple.”

Downstairs also has a WC with a modern two-piece suite in cream with a low level WC and hand basin.

The lounge-diner, with its patio door to the conservatory, has a wooden fire mantelpiece with marble effect hearth and surround and this lovely spacious room also has enough space for a dining table.

The kitchen’s fitted appliances are included in the sale - a filter cooker hood with fan and light, gas cooker, fridge freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer.

A traditional staircase from the entrance hall takes you to the four bedrooms and bathroom and access to the loft.

All four bedrooms are doubles and the second and third both have built-in wardrobes with shelving and hanging space. The fourth is a bedroom but could easily be converted into an office or study space.

The family bathroom has a traditional three-piece suite in cream including a low level bath, with stone effect tiles with border tiles.

David added: “The house is pretty much perfect because we have kept on top of the decorating and the carpets are five years old after buying the house seven years ago. As there is just the two of us, no children or pets, they are in very good condition.

“Millom is such a friendly, welcoming town and we can walk to the medical centre, the dentists, Tesco and the other shops. At the same time we are only half a mile before we are in the countryside which is beautiful around Millom.

“We are very sad to leave the house and town, but we have elderly parents who are starting to need our help. We are just too far away but we want to be there for them.”
