A SPACIOUS home in a part of town she knew well and loved proved irresistible for Judith Cleasby when she was in the market for a new house. And after 15 years in her home she is going to find it hard to leave behind

PLENTY of room and lots of natural light ensure Judith Cleasby’s house is a really attractive living space.

This family-sized home is in a great location close to the corner shops, the post office, clubs, pubs, Chinese takeaway, schools and buses.

But Judith has always loved the street because of its quiet and peaceful setting.

The house - 34 James Watt Terrace, Barrow Island - has two reception rooms, a traditional kitchen and handy utility room. Going upstairs there are three bedrooms and a bathroom. Outside to the front is a red brick forecourt and to the back is an L-shaped yard.

Judith has always loved Barrow Island, although in the past she has also enjoyed Walney.

But when she discovered the roomy mid terrace on a quiet street she snapped it up.

Talking about her home she said: “I have always liked maintaining my home, but over the years I haven't had to do too much to it.

“It is a house that I have always felt comfortable living in even when on my own after my son left home and joined the navy.

“The house was only partially double glazed when I bought it, but I ensured that it is all double glazed now.

“Both the lounge and the dining room have had emulsions, the lounge also has had a new floor, the back street wall has been rendered on the inside, the house has been repointed upstairs and there has been a bit of work on the roof.”

While Judith had a lovely new bathroom installed, the house still has some of its original features such as the original-style tiled floor and cornice in the entrance porch and hall.

The lounge is open to the dining room through a large feature archway and the light just pours into the rooms from the front bay window. The lounge has a living flame gas fire with a lovely decorative surround while there is an open fireplace in the dining room with a slate fireplace and wood beam mantle.

The good ceiling height and a second good-sized window looking out to the backyard also make this room nicely light.

Judith’s traditional kitchen has a good range of wall units and a sliding door leads to the handy utility room where there is the washing machine and fridge freezer.

Describing upstairs, Judith said: “The bathroom was put in just four years ago and has a three-piece suite in white with a low-level bath and over-bath electric shower, and low-level flush WC, wash basin and pedestal.

“The walls are modern black and silver and I absolutely love my bathroom.

"There are three bedrooms and the master bedroom is a double and another really light area and it is a wonderful warm room.

"The second also takes a double bed and the third is a single room with a built-in cupboard.

“But it is a single room not one of those box rooms.”

Outside the yard could be developed further, but the house is just too big for Judith on her own and she is ready to move on and enjoy her new life.
