The Lambeth Conference saw 800 Anglican bishops meet for two weeks at Canterbury. Many bishops were interviewed in the press and in the media and some were controversial.

The quotation that has stayed with me after this particular Lambeth Conference came from a bishop from South East Asia.

In answer to a request from a TV reporter to comment on one of the current controversies in the Church of England, he said: “We think Sin is still Sin”.

There it was, on prime time television – that three letter word which one rarely hears these days.

The Bible talks clearly and openly about Sin and its effects, from the Book of Genesis through to the Book of Revelation. Sin does three things: it Spoils, it Spreads and it Separates.

It spoils relations between peoples and nations; it spreads throughout a community, a town and a country; and most of all, and worst of all, it separates people from one another and from their Heavenly Father.

There is a remedy for Sin.

We read in the Letter to the Ephesians chapter 1 and also in the Letter to the Colossians chapter 1 that there is “redemption through His blood”.

What an expensive thing Sin is! Only the shedding of the blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary has been able to wash away the taint and the power of Sin.

Confess your Sin today for “He is merciful and just to forgive us our Sins”.

As the Bishop said on television: “Sin is still Sin” and we are all sinners, but Jesus is still the sinner’s friend.
