Works on Cumbrian road due to begin

TRAFFIC disruption could be felt in a Furness village for up to a fortnight.

By Gareth Jones

Cumbria County Council are set to carry out essential road maintenance works in Ireleth Brow, Askam. The work will take approximately two weeks and will take place from Ireleth Road to Near Old Park Farm.

The works will involve planing and resurfacing the road, as well as carrying out improvements to the existing drainage gullies.

They are scheduled to start on Monday (18 February) and are due to last for up to two weeks.

A spokeswoman for the council said: “To protect the general public and the workforce a road closure of Ireleth Brow between Ireleth Road and Near Old Park Farm will be required for the duration of the works.

“A diversion route will be signed along Ireleth Road, A595, Askam Road, Skelgate (Dalton), Market Street (Dalton) and Broughton Road.

“Due to the scope of the work involved, it will not be possible to provide a pedestrian route through the site during the works.”
