A WOMAN has been taken to hospital after reportedly being hit by a Royal Mail van.
The incident occurred at around 2pm in Oxford Street, Barrow.
The woman, believed to be in her forties, has been transported to Furness General Hospital for treatment.
Her injuries were sustained when she was struck by a Royal Mail delivery van.
A spokeswoman for the North West Ambulance Service said they were called to the street at about 2pm to reports of a vehicle hitting a pedestrian.
“It seems a wagon has rolled back and hit a pedestrian," the spokeswoman said.

There is a major problem with postmen on Oxford street.
When they are either collecting or dropping off they tend to park in the middle of the road rather than find a space. I have seen them many times parking next to a space and instead of pulling in stillpark in the road.
Road safety should be top of the list rather than having to walk a few feet.

Have your say
@Resident, sorry to hear you find a "major problem with postmen" parking on Oxford Street, but I'll think you'll find any delivery company DPD, UPS, TNT / DHL all regularly double park along Oxford street due to residents having 2 or more cars per household parking in the street and surrounding streets.
I believe the issue of people speeding down Oxford street is more of an issue. In an ideal world all Post Offices and Post boxes would have parking bays outside for postal vehicles.Terrace streets are just not designed for 2/3 car families of today. Sometimes delivery drivers have to double park. I hate doing parcel deliveries, but I would love it if you would give it a try to see what you would do and see how you would cope!Posted by Postie on 21 March 2013 at 23:03
