A WALNEY has been fined for "foul and disgusting" racist behaviour.

Darren McCullough, 40, of Cote Ley Crescent, Walney, pleaded guilty to racially aggravated harassment, alarm and distress by words at Furness Magistrates' Court yesterday.

The Walney resident admitted shouting racist comments relating to his nationality outside his home around 8.30am on August 29 this year.

Lee Dacre, prosecuting, advised magistrates to be mindful of the effect the comments could have in light of the current migrant crisis.

Presiding Magistrate Stephen Baker called this "an instance of foul and disgusting behaviour" and fined McCullogh £180 and ordered him to pay a £30 victim surcharge and court costs of £85.

McCullough said he was "ashamed and embarrassed" by his actions.
