FIRE fighters were called out to Walney Island after being alerted to a fire at Earnse Bay.

The crew from Walney Fire Station were called at 6.57pm after being alerted to a supposed grass fire near Furness Golf Club.

However, on arrival they discovered that some driftwood and a tyre had been set alight.

The crew were able to put out the blaze using water and sand within ten minutes.

Simon Morgan, crew manager from Walney said: "It's what we would call a nuisance call. It takes us away from people who may actually need help."

This is the seventh call out for the crew in four days.
