AN iconic pub on Walney has been given an impressive facelift thanks to a six-figure investment.

The Ferry Hotel has undergone an extensive refurbishment over the last three weeks.

The front facade of the pub and restaurant, which overlooks the Promenade and Walney Channel, boasts a new colour scheme and the interior of the venue has benefited from new booths, decor and furnishings.

Having been rebranded as a Stonehouse Pizza and Carvery, 10 new jobs have been created at the Ferry as part of the refurb, bringing the total workforce to 21.

Having previously offered a traditional carvery, under the Crown Carvery division of pub chain owners Mitchells and Butlers, the Ferry's new menu includes pizzas, burgers and classic English meals.

General manager Ian Wafer said: "We're excited about the changes and are looking forward to welcoming the people of Walney and Barrow to come and see what Stonehouse Pizza and Carvery is all about.

"The restaurant has been given a fantastic new look and a menu that has something for everyone. When you eat with us you can put on the plate exactly what you want; creating your meal, your choice, your way.

"We're a real part of the local community and we're looking to support local charities, projects and to host a variety of events and activities that everyone can enjoy. When you next pop in to savour a good meal, or spend quality time with family and friends, be sure to ask us about what's coming up."

Both Crown Carvery and Stonehouse Pizza and Carvery are brands which form part of the Mitchells & Butlers chain. The pubco owns around 1,700 pubs and restaurants across the UK.
