CHILDREN donned crowns and enjoyed an ice-cream at a royal garden party on Walney.

North Walney Primary School's Parent Teacher Association organised the event to celebrate The Queen's 90th birthday.

Pupils, teachers and parents had a lovely day on Tuesday dressing up in red, white and blue or as kings and queens.

The children took turns on the bouncy castle and the inflatable obstacle course and played games. They had a visit from the ice-cream van and every child received an ice-cream.

The pupils learnt the words to the national anthem and then they gathered in the hall to sing while Miss Gilmour played the guitar.

The whole school then sang Happy Birthday to Her Majesty.

All the children from Year One and Year Two made Union Flag bunting to decorate the school hall.

The school held a competition to make a royal crown at home and one child from each year group won a prize for the best crown.

After school, refreshments and cakes were sold to raise funds.

Parent Gillian Lawrence said: "A fab day with plenty of laughs and smiles from kids staff and parents - the whole school coming together for another great celebration."
