YOUNGSTERS put some pride back in their community by giving up their time to help clear a popular path after council contractors refused on health and safety grounds.

Walney councillors Frank Cassidy and Alec Proffitt were joined by residents Steve Forster and Kerry Hughes to tackle the path by Cote Ley Crescent on Tuesday night.

Councillor Proffitt's young sons Finley and Dylan also took part, and cleared a car-full of rubbish and weeds from the path.

Councillor Cassidy said: "I was joined by Councillor Alec Proffitt in clearing rubbish from a back path in Cote Ley Crescent on south Walney because street cleaning contractors would not remove it due to what they claimed were health and safety reasons."
