A YOUNGSTER from Walney organised his own fundraising event in a bid to help residents at a Barrow care home.

In a bid to raise money for Ostley House in Barrow where his great-grandma lives, South Walney Junior School pupil Dylan Livingstone took it upon himself to take part in a 5k run at the weekend.

Organising the fundraising himself, the nine-year-old was motivated to raise money for a local good cause by his older brother Taylor and granddad Stuart Dickinson, who are taking part in this year's Keswick to Barrow walk.

Dylan Livingstone and granddad Stuart Dickinson at the finishing line Dylan, who plays football for Walney Island Under 10s, will no doubt be delighted to see the fundraising barometer at Ostley House inch higher thanks to the £75 he raised during the 5k run.

Dad Andy Livingstone, a coach at the football club, said he was "incredibly proud".

"The whole idea stemmed from his granddad and my eldest son Taylor doing the K2B walk this year as part of Stuart's 60th birthday celebrations and Dylan said 'I want to do something for charity'," Mr Livingstone said.

"He did his own sponsor form and got his own sponsors, planned the route along the beach front on Walney and is planning on presenting Ostley House with the money on Sunday.

"Both myself and his mum Tanya are very proud of what he has done and I'm sure the money will go to good use. We're also relieved his granddad made it as he said it's the furthest he has run in nearly 30 years!"
