LIFEBOAT volunteers were called out after the coastguard received reports of two young children who were trapped by the incoming tide in Walney Channel.
Volunteer crew from the RNLI’s Barrow station launched their inshore lifeboat yesterday afternoon to assist in the rescue of two children at the east side of Walney Channel.
The request to launch the lifeboat came from HM Coastguard at Holyhead at 4.04pm.
The information received was that two children were on the shoreline on the east side of the Walney Channel, south of Jubilee Bridge, and were experiencing difficulties by the water due to the incoming tide – high water was at 4.05pm.
The inshore lifeboat crew were paged and the Vision of Tamworth was launched at 4-20pm. The lifeboat was on the scene at 4.32pm.
However, within just a few minutes of arriving the crew was advised by HM Coastguard to stand down as the children had been accounted for and were safe.
The Vision of Tamworth returned to the Lifeboat station at 4.45pm where it was made ready for the next launch.
