THE good times will be ready to roll again at the King Alfred Bowling Club on Walney thanks to a cash grant to spruce up its 35-year-old pavilion.

Improvements were needed at the pavilion, which is headquarters to more than 100 club members.

And now South Walney Labour county councillor Frank Cassidy has agreed to meet the £2,300 cost of an upgrade from his allowances.

Cllr Cassidy said: “The King Alf is more than just a bowling club – it’s an important community hub where people of all ages get together.

“Greenkeeper Keith Mills called me and explained the situation with the pavilion and I was glad to be able to help out.

“The work is due to be carried out shortly and it will give the old pavilion a new lease of life.”

The upgrade will involve installation of UPVC replacement windows and one door. External cladding will also be introduced to help weatherproof the structure.

Mr Mills said: “Over the last few years we have updated our facilities, bringing in new seating, erecting new shelters, building new toilets and keeping everything disabled friendly.

“Without the help of people like Frank we would never have reached our goals.

“The refurbishment of the pavilion is one of the last pieces in the jigsaw and now the King Afred Hotel has new owners who we are working hand in hand with the future of our thriving club is looking bright.”
