POLICE are investigating after a group of male youths stole equipment and caused criminal damage at a golf course.

The incident happened on Sunday night at some time around 8pm at Furness Golf Course on Walney.

Tee markers and flags were stolen while a number of rakes and one of the bunkers at the links course off Central Drive were also damaged.

Club member Chris Rushton praised the green-keeper for "doing an amazing job" in clearing up after the damage and called the vandals "mindless idiots".

Anyone who knows the identity of the youths, who may have been on bikes and may also have been spotted near the coastguard tower, is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
