A FAMILY-RUN funfair that has been visiting Furness for more than 100 years is heading back to the area this week.

Taylor's Funfairs will be at Sandy Gap, on Walney, from tomorrow (Thursday) through to Sunday with the Back to School Funfair Weekend of entertainment.

The aroma of candy floss will be in the island air as the fair brings its rides and games for little ones through to teenagers and adults alike.

The favourite bumper cars and waltzers will be be back, as rides such as the Xtreme Miami.

There will also be traditional games, like the classic hook a duck, and refreshments on sale at the site.

The funfair coincides with a busy few days in Barrow with the arrival of the OVO Energy Tour of Britain Stage Six starting in Barrow on Friday, which will see lots of visitors coming into the area.

David Taylor, owner of Taylor's Funfairs, of Levens, in Lancashire, said the family are proud to be heading back to Walney and the borough as generations of Taylors have been doing for more than a century now.

Mr Taylor said: "The Taylor family have been coming to Walney for over 100 years.

"My grandfather came with steam engines.

"The funfairs have changed a lot over the years but were looking forward to bringing some modern rides for all ages to enjoy."

The funfair, which will be setting up on the island from today opens its entertainment tomorrow evening.

Tomorrow and on Friday the fair is open from 5.30pm to 9pm, while on Saturday the opening hours are from 1pm to 9pm.

On the final day, Sunday, the fair is open from 1pm to 8pm.

The offers available this year include a 15 tokens for £10 deal and a super Sunday special offer of a £9.99 wristband for visitors to access the rides all day.
