A POWER cut affected thousands of properties on Walney and another is believed to be affecting properties in Barrow town centre. 

The high voltage fault was reported at around 10am in large sections of North Scale as well as in residential areas off the Promenade and near Jubilee Bridge. 

As of 10.45am, some residents on Walney had reported power had been restored. 

However, as of 11am, a number of shoppers in Barrow town centre reported of power cuts affecting some of the cash machines. 

A spokesperson for Electricity North West, said: “An underground cable fault caused the loss of supply to 2,799 customers on Walney Island this morning at 9.52am. 

“From our control room we restored 2,334 within five minutes and the remaining 465 customers were restored at 10.36am.
