A TOWN’S secondary school and sixth form recorded its best ever results – and it is striving to improve on them again this year.

Ulverston Victoria High School celebrated its best GCSE and A-Level performance in the summer.

The school in Springfield Road saw 65 per cent of students achieve at least five GCSEs grades A* to C, including English and maths. This was up five percentage points on the 2011 GCSE group.

At A-Level the overall pass rate was 98.5 per cent.

There were 25.4 per cent of the grades being A*s and As, and 51 per cent A* to B.

Roger Cahalin, an assistant headteacher at UVHS, said: “Our GCSE and A-Level results were the highest we have had. We are on a journey to extraordinary, beyond outstanding.

“We are never satisfied and feel we can push our results even higher.

“We are constantly looking at ways to improve our performance. We work very hard as a team to strive to make sure students achieve their potential.

“We expect to improve on these results in the summer, our data is showing this to be the case.

“We will never become complacent.”

Cartmel Priory CE School was another high achieving South Lakeland school.

The village secondary saw 68 per cent of pupils gain five GCSEs grades A* to C, including English and maths.

This was down three percentage points on the previous year.

Cartmel school is one of the academies created under coalition government, which allowed good and outstanding schools independence.
