Ulverston Victoria High School has its best ever exam results

TWO years of hard work paid off for many college students as one Furness sixth form reported its best ever set of results.

Ulverston Victoria High School pupils achieved a pass rate of 98.5 per cent, with 51 per cent earning A*-B grades.

Assistant headteacher Roger Cahalin said over 90 per cent of students had been accepted to their first choice universities.

He said: “We are absolutely delighted at the results, which reflect the hard work and sustained effort the students have put in over two years.

“It pays testament to the excellent standard of teaching they have received, in and out of the classroom.”

Sam Tickle, of Rusland, will study maths at Cambridge University’s Trinity College after earning five A*s.

He said: “I am absolutely elated – it is difficult to put into words how I am right now.

“I didn’t sleep an awful lot last night. I don’t know how I did it, to be perfectly honest.”

Rebecca Lloyd, from Lindal, got A*s in biology and chemistry and an A in French, also securing a place at the prestigious university to study natural sciences biology. She said: “I am really really happy – I have been so nervous all over the summer.

“I’m looking forward to going to Cambridge. It will be hard work but I used to working quite hard.”

Bart Parka, who teachers said spoke limited English when he arrived at the school in Year Seven, earned himself a place at Durham University with three A*s.

He said: “It is pretty amazing. I was going for three A*s but the chemistry exam was ridiculously hard.”

Felicity Dobson, from Ulverston, said she would be celebrating after getting into Edinburgh University to study medicine.

She said: “I was very shocked. I didn’t think it was actually possible to get three A*s.”

The maths department performed particularly well, with 16 out of 56 entrants getting an A*, and department head Alessandra Desbottes.
