Ulverston restaurant closes it doors

A POPULAR Ulverston restaurant has closed its doors for good.

Customers have been left disappointed after finding Rustique, in Brogden Street, no longer open for business.

A sign has now gone up advertising the building for sale at auction.

Owners of neighbouring children’s clothing store Boogles and Bump, Iain and Jill Raven, said they had been surprised to hear of the closure.

Mr Raven said: “They stopped putting the sign out in the last couple of weeks — it was all very quiet really.”

The restaurant has been popular with diners in the town for several years, since owner Jason Bright set up shop in the small alleyway just off Brogden Street. The property is listed for auction with Auction House Cumbria.

It will go under the hammer at the Coronation Hall later this month.

The property is made up of the restaurant along with a self-contained flat and has a guide price of £135,000.

Auctioneer Colin West said the property would be an “absolute bargain” if it went for close that figure.

He added: “It is a very popular, first class restaurant in Ulverston.

“It is a shame to see it closing down as it has got a great reputation for à la carte dining.”

The auction will take place at 2pm on February 22.

Have your say

Some completely ill informed comments about this. Rustique has sadly failed to maintain its once high standards of service despite having once been easily the best restaurant in the area. Poor service at top prices? I'll take my money elsewhere thanks very much, and it looks like I wasn't the only one. I was a regular customer, happy to pay over £100 for a meal for two, but these places have to move with the times if they want to charge top whack, and Rustique didn't. Absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with any supermarket plans.
