A YOUNG swimming sensation has won national recognition for her impressive achievements.
Eden-Joy Light, from Ulverston, won silver in the Young Swimmer of the Year category at the Kellogg’s Swimtastic Awards on Saturday.
On the day she also got to meet a host of stars from the swimming world, including Paralympic gold-medallist Ellie Simmonds.
The 12-year-old was shortlisted for the award having combined personal swimming successes with selfless charity work, raising money for Alice Pyne’s charity Alice’s Escapes, which provides short breaks for seriously ill children and their families.
Eden has made a name for herself at a county level, winning 50m, 100m and 200m distances.
She even represented Cumbria the day after receiving her award, setting a new personal best in the process. Earlier in the year Eden used her swimming abilities to raise money for charity by swimming 14km – 570 lengths.
She raised over £600 for Alice’s Escapes.
Michelle Light, Eden’s mum, nominated her for the award. She said: “Eden is a beautiful child inside and out, and when she is not swimming she loves nothing more than to help other people.”
