Ulverston food fair tickles the tastebuds

A NEW gastronomic event launched in Ulverston looks set to become a regular fixture.

A food fair, showcasing local produce, delighted visitors to the Coronation Hall on Friday as they were served up a range of home-grown treats.

The event was such a hit that organiser Paula Winder said she intends to hold another one in the new year.

The Dalton resident said she came up with the idea last year and decided the time was right to have a go at putting the fair together.

She added: “There is nothing like this in the area and I thought the Coronation Hall was a perfect location. It is something I want to get established and hold on a regular basis.”

The reaction from traders and visitors, she said, was positive and strengthened her resolve to make sure it becomes a permanent fixture in Ulverston.

Traders traveled from as far away as Preston and Penrith to appear at the fair and, despite the length of the journey, said they would be coming back in the future.

Ms Winder added: “They are really fantastic companies to have in the area and I am really excited about it – I just hope it gets established.”

She said she had been pleased with the turnout and the response from people she spoke to.

She said: “Everyone has been really positive and a few people asked if we will be doing more.

“I think it is important to promote local businesses and it is good for the local economy.”

But despite working full-time in sales and marketing, she said her love of food had prompted her to put in the effort in her spare time to make her ideas become a reality.

She said: “I just decided to give it a go and see how it goes.

“If you do something you love it doesn’t seem like hard work.

“It has been a relief to get some positive feedback from the stall-holders and I will definitely do it again.

Have your say

Yes, there were very few people there, as can be seen from the pics. However, once you saw the eye watering prices being asked, there were many, including myself, making a quick, empty handed dash for the exit!!

Sounds like it was a great success - any chance of holding the next one on a Saturday for those of us who would love to have gone to this one but couldnt make it due to work?
