AN aspiring actress has her eyes firmly set on the West End stage after landing a place at a prestigious drama school.
Alice Stephens, a sixth form student at Ulverston Victoria High School, is delighted after being offered a place at the Italia Conti Academy in London.
It is the world’s oldest theatre arts training school, founded in 1911, and its former students, including Russell Brand, Martine McCutcheon and Naomi Campbell, have gone on to become household names.
The 18-year-old, from Ulverston, says she cannot wait to take up her place at the high-profile school in September.
She added: “I was over the moon when I found out. I feel blessed to be accepted at such a prestigious school.”
Miss Stephens says she is not sure exactly where the experience will take her but her passion for performing meant drama school was the obvious choice for her.
She said: “I just want to be on the stage – I don’t know what is going to come up.”
The most intriguing aspect for her, she says, is being able to develop her skills and try her hand at new things.
The A-level student added: “They bring out sides of you that you haven’t tried before. Something I have always wanted to do is comedy.
“I would also love to do screen acting and West End. There is so much I want to do.”
Miss Stephens added that she owed much of her success to a number of people who have helped her over the years.
She said: “I would like to thank Nicola and Michelle Stephenson, at her dance school in Ulverston, Christine Jamieson, my dance and teacher at school, and my singing teacher Deborah Milledge.”
She also had high praise for head of drama at UVHS Colynne Hicks, who she said had given her a lot of help to get to where she is now.
Miss Hicks said: “I am so proud of Alice – she is just a fantastic student. She has worked so hard for this and everyone at UVHS is so proud of her.”
The Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts offers a wide variety of courses, including acting, singing, performing arts, and performance arts with teacher training.

Have your say
Well done, Alice. You obviously have talent and I hope you go on to prove that you can leave a small town and achieve your dreams if you have the confidence to do so. Good luck.
