Ulverston businesses step up war on seagulls

A BATTLE plan has been drawn up to tackle the seagull menace plaguing a group of businesses.

Have your say

Archie Workman, business manager at the centre, said the seagulls are a threat to its ability to attract new businesses to Ulverston.

What a potty statement. Given that seagulls nest for a couple of months per year what is the excuse for the lack of 'new business coming to Ulverston' during the other ten months?

Seagulls are a menace! They plagued my entire working life. After retiring I've travelled to Africa to trace some family roots & there's some beasts there let me tell you. None as annoying as seagulls though!

Hmm, I'm not sure culling is the answer as in the long run they will multiply and move into new areas....same as squirrels.

Could the council do an educational campaign in schools and papers on causes of littering and feeding? Many persevere in feeding the ducks which is wrong on many levels - bad for their health, causes water pollution, overcrowding, AND encourages gulls, etc. Agression is caused by a loss of their natural fear of humans so it goes without saying that if we didn't provide a ready source of food, natural order would be restored.

Do this person push a pram? I have also seen this up the gill.

Part of the problem is seagulls are attracted by one of Ulverston's village idiots ,sorry ,characters. This person rummages through litter bins for food scraps and then scatters them for the seagulls .
