Tribute to Alice

PUPILS turned their school purple for a day in memory of inspirational teen Alice Pyne.
Staff at St Mary’s Primary School, in Ulverston, helped organise a non-uniform day at the children’s request.
They decided to do something to remember Alice, whose tireless efforts to help others touched the hearts of people all over the world.
Everyone taking part yesterday opted to wear purple – Alice’s favourite colour.
Senior teacher Bernie Fidler said everyone at school had wanted to do something to show their respect.
She added: “I was, on a personal level, very moved by it and on Monday some of the children were talking about it.
“It is quite a big thing for them to see someone so poorly that helped so many people.”
For a minimum donation of £1, children dressed in their own clothes for the day and the room was a sea of purple during the morning assembly.
Mrs Fidler also lit a candle at the front of the room for Alice during the assembly.
Eight-year-old Samuel Light said he wanted to follow the example of his older sister, Eden-Joy, who raised money for Alice’s Escapes last year.
He said: “I wanted to raise money for Alice Pyne because she helped lots of children who are ill by using the money that gets raised.”
Some of the pupils are incorporating Alice’s achievements into their work. Megan Smith, 10, said: “We are doing journalistic writing and researching Alice Pyne.”
Children at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Primary School, in Dalton, also sent in pictures of themselves dressed in purple in support of Alice’s Escapes.
