A CHARITY faces being disbanded next week.
South Lakes Search And Rescue is set to be dissolved after it failed to submit accounts.
However Andrea Nicholls, who founded the organisation with her husband Rich, said the charity has already moved to resolve the problem.
A spokeswoman for Companies House said the decision had been taken after no accounts were filed by SLSAR.
The accounts were due to have been submitted by June 9 of last year, and despite reminders being sent, the spokeswoman said the returns were never submitted and that the charity, which is also a registered company, would be dissolved on Tuesday. However, last night Mrs Nicholls told the Evening Mail said: “A document in the annual return document was sent back, it has gone missing in the post and we hadn't received any confirmation.
“Companies House contacted us yesterday to let us know that this was going to happen.”
Mrs Nicholls said members of the group had spent yesterday morning trying to resolve the issue, and that the required information had been posted to Companies House yesterday afternoon.
She said that there were no doubts over the future of the group, and added: “To be perfectly honest it is just because there are people that want to see us fail and it is not something that myself and the management team will allow.”
SLSAR was formed at the beginning of 2010, after five former members of Ulverston Inshore Rescue joined forces with 11 other volunteers.
The team was responsible for carrying out rescues on water, helping to look for missing people and providing support at public events.
They also provided support to community first responders to help the emergency services deal with incidents in South Cumbria.
A spokesman for Companies House said no correspondence had been received as of yesterday afternoon, but the company could be restored.
He said: “If they wanted to keep the company, we usually advise customers they can restore the company. We would advise them of the process they can do.”
