Six officers with two dog handlers swooped on the semi-detached house in Lund Terrace at about 1pm yesterday and smashed in the front door before searching it for drugs.

Detective Inspector Rob O’Connor, of Barrow CID, said police inquiries had identified the house as a possible hub for drug-dealing in the town.

Yesterday’s raid was carried out after police obtained a warrant to search the house under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

As well as finding an amount of substances believed to be drugs – which are yet to be identified – the police also arrested two people.

It is vital that the public tell the police any information they had about crime in their area, said DI O’Connor.

He said: “We want people to think that if they are going to South Cumbria to commit a crime, they will pay for it, the police will know what they are doing, police will target them and the police will jump on them.”

After the raid, a man and a woman, both 21 and from Ulverston, were arrested on suspicion of supplying controlled drugs and were in police custody yesterday.

DI O’Connor said anyone with information about drugs being dealt in their area should contact police on 101 or ring Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
