North Lonsdale Show pins hopes on another record year

AN army of volunteers worked through the day yesterday to make the final preparations for one the biggest agricultural shows of the year.

Today marks the 176th year of the Ulverston and North Lonsdale Show with thousands of guests expected to flock to the show’s new home on the Recreational Hall Fields in Urswick.

Last year’s show, the first to be held at the new location, broke all attendance records and organisers are hoping for a similar turnout today.

Show secretary Margaret Coward said: “Last year was a record and we’re hoping to have a good lot this year. It’s more accessible here and it’s safer. It’s better for disabled people and for families because it’s flat.

“The entries in virtually all the categories are up this year and we’ve filled all the trading stands and craft stands this year.”

Volunteers are needed to run the marquees at next year’s show. Anyone who can spare a few hours to help is asked to contact Jill Halpin on 07429 318428.
