Move proposed for post office
Published at 16:49, Tuesday, 08 January 2013
A PROPOSED relocation for a Walney post office will more than double trading hours.
Post Office Ltd is proposing to move the Mill Lane Post Office from its current site to the next door Spar store, also in Mill Lane, and offer services seven days a week.
The new location would be open Monday to Saturday from 7am to 10pm and Sunday from 7.30am to 9pm.
This would offer customers an extra 55 hours a week to access Post Office products and services.
The Post Office is inviting customers and interested parties to give their comments on the move in a six-week public consultation, which starts today and runs until February 19. If the proposed plan goes ahead the move will happen in April.
Post Office regional network manager for Scotland and North England, Sue Richardson, said: “We understand how important having a post office is to residents in Walney and we are confident this new, modern branch will make it easier for our customers to do business with us and also secure services for the future.”
She added: “The proposed changes to the branch are part of a three-year investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office, that will see around 6,000 branches converting to new-style branches.’
The Post Office, now independent of Royal Mail, is the largest retail network in the UK, with more than 11,500 branches.
During the consultation Post Office Ltd welcomes feedback on issues customers would like considered.
Submissions can be made during the consultation via email to comments@postoffice.co.uk, via the Customer Helpline on 08457 22 33 44 or the textphone number on 08457 22 33 55.
