THE mother and best friend of inspirational Ulverston teenager Alice Pyne have had to abandon their climb of Kilimanjaro.
Samantha Blundell, 17, from Barrow, was under the guardianship of Vicky Pyne as they climbed the mountain in Tanzania.
But they have had to cancel their fundraising effort as Samantha became ill at 4,400 metres yesterday.
Alice's sister Milly Pyne, 15, of Ulverston, is continuing the climb and hopes to reach the top where she will scatter Alice's ashes.
Mrs Pyne tweeted from Alice's account: "I'm down but Milly continues, determined to get to the summit for her sister ... please send positive vibes for my little star #SoProud."
