Lane closures planned during work to improve A590 in South Lakes
Published at 10:52, Wednesday, 06 March 2013
WORK to install a new safety barrier along a section of the A590 near Ulverston began today.
The £30,000 project to improve the road at Backbarrow will take five days to complete.
Temporary traffic lights will be in place along the single carriageway section of road.
Work will take place between 8am and 6pm each day between Haverthwaite and Levis Garth.
To minimise inconvenience, work along the single carriageway stretch of road will take place between 9.30am and 3.30pm and the traffic lights will be manually controlled.
The nearside lane of the eastbound dual carriageway will be also be closed – between 8am and 6pm each day – and a reduced 40mph speed limit will be in place for the safety of road users as well as workers.
The project is due to be completed by Sunday.
Highways Agency project sponsor Peter Gee said: “The barrier is in is poor condition and, as part of our routine maintenance along the A590, we are replacing it with a new barrier up to present standards which will enhance protection for users of the of the route.”
