Images show how Ulverston could change

THESE new images show how a new supermarket could change the face of Ulverston town centre.

Have your say

your comments say it all Redneck, that this really is getting you hot under the collar.
I do think that Merlin chose the right word in 'Tragedy',because, this whole issue of Sainsbury's has without doubt shown Ulverston up for what it is not,and that is the real tragedy for people such as yourself Redneck, the facade has been lifted and Ulverston exposed as just another rather obscure working class town-and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that,be proud of your roots redneck-don't deny them for that is yet another tragedy.

There are some genuine tragedies reported by the nwem, whether ulverston does or does not get another supermarket is not one of them. Unfortunate if the brewery is not chosen for development, but not a tragedy.

Ulverston suffers two tragedies, one is not having a Sainsburys, the other will be having a Sainsburys.

What the Dickens!,Ulverston is on its knees anyway-and Sainsbury's will be the final nail in the coffin.Sainsbury's wont be as cheap as some people make out and what is left of the town centre essentials such as the Butchers etc, will be gone with nothing left to fall back on,simple.

Where does the water flow? Breweries were traditionally built on water courses and I recall someone talking about a well under the Brewery site. Does anyone know how the stream gets from the Weint to the Ellers. Water and an underground car park and underpass?

Does anyone know where the water runs? Breweries were built on water supplies and I seem to remember someone talking about a well at the site used for washing barrels. The stream that runs under the Weint reappears at the Ellers but how? Water is not really welcome in Underground car parks and underpasses.

Oh for goodness sake, can we please stop trying to cling on to some idealised image of the perfect olde English town and start moving forward? There is room for both the indie businesses and a new supermarket. It's much needed and I feel would be welcomed by most residents in the Ulverston area who are fed up of trekking to Barrow to do their 'Big Shop'. If anything, it will draw more people into town. It's a shame the voice of the people who would welcome change are not as loud as KUS appear to be. Maybe it's time to have a local vote on this and finish the argument once and for all.

That just seems to be the way it gets played sometimes Ron, cards are held close to chests. By now I guess a considerable sum of money has been spent by Robinsons and the development company on plans and surveys, no doubt research has also been carried out to determine the viability of it all. Not like the fiasco that was The Mall in Barrow where units went unoccupied for years. I keep thinking of Dalton Co-op, if it can be successful in Dalton surely it can succeed in Ulverston?

Have to agree with "Redneck Rampage" folks. Never mind the conservation area ... why, oh why is a run down, crumbling old Brewery designated a Conservation area? Its an eyesore that would benefit immensely from the looks of the plans - what a splendid first impression it would give.

About time we had a residents referendum on this. Then we'd know either way. Simple really - send a voting slip to everyone on the electoral register, asking them to mark an "X" by Sainsburys A590, the Brewery development or "Neither".

Its not going to cost that much, and at least everyone will know the score - if its a Yes then so be it, if its a No then we can scrap the proposals and forget it ever happened. End of.

But does Aldi, Lidl or any other supermarket actually want to move into the brewery site? If no interest has been shown by a supermarket chain, is all the talk not futile?
