Cumbria apprentices show off skills

APPRENTICES have been demonstrating skills to secondary school students.

Training company GEN2 held an open event at its Furness Skills Centre in Ulverston as part of National Apprenticeship Week 2014.

The apprentices showcased their entries for the Gen2 challenges and community projects.

A wooden picnic table for those using wheelchair was one of the items made by the apprentices. This will be given to Mill Lane Day Centre on Walney.

The apprentices also made interactive items for the GEN2 team to use during school visits and careers fairs. One team had made an impressive pneumatic London Bridge.

Today is the grand final of the competition. A panel will be judging entries from GEN2’s centres across Cumbria.

Sir Tony Cunningham will be presenting the prizes and Alan Barry, chairman of Cumbria County Council will also be attending the event.
