Beth to lead parade along streets

ONE family tradition has been kept going as a 10-year-old girl was named as her parish’s rush queen.

Beth Troughton’s family have been attending the Urswick rushbearing since long before she was born. And now she will lead the parade through the streets of Urswick with the help of her two attendants, Naimh Kelly and Summer Sheeran.

Beth was made rush queen after being named as one the attendants last year.

Mum Nicola Troughton said: “I was one of the attendants when I was little but I was never queen.”

The parade on September 30 is followed by the laying of rushes on the church floor. The parade will make its way from Low Furness School to the Church of St Mary and St Michael.
