Barrow maternity unit campaign moves up a gear

A FLEET of cars is set to help drive forward a campaign all over Furness.
Top Gear Driving School, based in Swarthmoor, is set to display ‘Save FGH’ posters in all its cars as part of the ongoing Thousand Voices campaign.
Set up by parents worried that Barrow could lose its consultant-led maternity services in an ongoing review of South Cumbria’s hospital services, the campaign aims to get people recording videos of themselves supporting Furness General Hospital.
Campaign organiser and Walney mum, Mandy Telford, said she “couldn’t have asked for anything better” in terms of getting the message out.
Ms Telford, who is married to Barrow and Furness MP, John Woodcock, said: “It’s like having a moving advert – these cars are always all over the area.
“We’re getting a lot of local support. We’ve got a few taxi firms that have leaflets in their offices, we’ve got them in shops and community centres, even in my WeightWatchers class last night! Everyone’s really getting involved.”
