THE public have been given the chance to make their mark in the local community by naming a town landmark.

After taking over the former HSBC bank building in Ulverston's New Market Street, the Cumbria Teaching Agency are now asking for people to come forward with suggestions for a new name.

Tony Martinez, director at the CTA, said: "I think nobody really gets a chance when it comes to big public buildings; people don't have a say."

Mr Martinez is asking for the people of Ulverston to submit their ideas for what they think the new building should be.

When enough suggestions have been collected, a shortlist will be drawn up and a winner selected.

The person who wins will receive £250 in cash or vouchers, and have their name engraved on a plaque on the side of the new building.
