Ulverston will celebrate its long and rich history this weekend as it marks its annual charter day.
This Saturday the town will be taken over by a range of stalls and attractions to mark 737 years since it was awarded a town charter.
In 1280 the town was awarded a charter by King Edward I enabling it to hold markets.
The newest and most exciting addition to the fun this year will be a dog competition, with categories including 'waggiest tale', 'best doggy bandana' and 'cutest puppy.'
The event will run from 11am to 3.30pm with free attractions spread across the town centre.
Families attending can enjoy:
- Face painting
- Glitter tattoos
- T-shirt painting at Ford Park
- Performances from the Ulverston Town Band and Junior Band from 11am
- A coconut shy run by Ulverston Rotary
- Fun and games on the banks of the Ulverston Canal
- Minecraft and Lego making
- Lantern building workshops in the run up to the Lantern Festival
Events will run throughout September to mark the town's charter, including the always popular Ulverston Lantern Festival.
