A MASSIVE blaze has destroyed a series of farm buildings and part of a house near to Lowick Green just outside of Ulverston.

Crews were called at 8.25pm last night to deal with a fire at a farm building, a barn and a diesel tank at Esps Farm. When firefighters arrived the building was well alight.

Firefighters are using breathing apparatus, foam and water from hose reel jets and open water from a nearby source to tackle the flames and stop it from spreading.

Firefighters faced difficulties in accessing nearby water, with the closest hydrant some 20 hose lengths away. A nearby beck was utilised for additional water.

The A5092 was shut off to motorists at the Lowick Green junction due to the blaze but is now understood to be open.

Fire crews from Barrow, two from Ulverston, one from Walney and one each from Broughton and Coniston, as well as the aerial ladder platform, battled the fire.

Some crews returned to station at around 2am but others remained at the scene to dampen it down.
