A TRADITIONAL rushbearing ceremony is taking place in Urswick this weekend.
Urswick rushbearing parade and ceremony will take place on Sunday in Great Urswick.
This year's rushbearing queen is Lily Hodgkinson, 11, of Little Urswick. She will wear a crown of rushes and flowers.
The parade starts at Low Furness Primary CE School in Great Urswick at 1pm and heads through the village to St Mary and St Michael's Church for the 113th Urswick Rushbearing ceremony.
Each year a crowd of people from the community come out to support the event.
Rushes are strewn on the church floor. Rushbearing dates back to when most buildings had earth floors and rushes were used to cover the floors.
