A 53-YEAR-OLD woman who threw a deckchair at her partner has been handed a community order.

Tracey Murthwaite, of Kirk Flatt, Great Urswick, was sentenced yesterday after pleaded guilty to assaulting Simon Raisbeck at Furness Magistrates' Court on October 11.

At last month's hearing, the court heard how Murthwaite was angry with Mr Raisbeck after he had not spent the day with her.

The defendant then went on to assault Mr Raisbeck, punching his leg several times which caused him a great deal of pain

Mr Raisbeck then left his house but Murthwaite followed him outside, where she struck him with a deckchair.

The defendant also threw Mr Raisbeck's mobile phone and was subsequently charged with criminal damage.

At yesterday's sentencing, Mr Andrew Gallagher, defending, said: "She pleaded guilty to both charges at the earliest occasion.

"She is absolutely committed to working with a community order and I see no reason given her history to suggest that there would be any breach of an order."

District Judge Gerald Chalk said that this was "not acceptable behaviour" but agreed to grant a curfew meaning that Murthwaite must stay at her home address between 8pm and 6am for seven weeks.

She has been ordered to pay a total of £400 in compensation towards the victim as well as a victim surcharge of £85.
