A WOMAN admitted assaulting her partner with a deck chair when she appeared before Furness Magistrates’ Court.

Tracey Murthwaite, of Kirk Flatt, Great Urswick, was alleged to have assaulted her partner with a deck chair and beaten him, causing injuries to his arm and leg.

She was also accused of damaging a mobile phone belonging to the complainant, to the value of £300.

Murthwaite pleaded guilty to a count of criminal damage, and a count of assault.

The court heard that on June 23, Murthwaite entered the home of her partner, Simon Raisbeck.

Mr Lee Dacre, prosecuting, told the court Murthwaite was angry with Mr Raisbeck, after he had not spent the day with her.

The 53-year-old went on to assault Mr Raisbeck, punching his leg several times and pulling his leg, causing him a great deal of pain.

The magistrates were told that Mr Raisbeck was awaiting a hip replacement operation.

Mr Raisbeck then left his house but Murthwaite followed him outside, where she allegedly struck him with a deck chair.

Mr Andy Gallagher, defending, said: “The defendant acknowledges that she has assaulted the claimant, and that there was a deck chair.

“She denies that it was her intention to assault him with that. She was angry at the time. They were arguing, she picked up a deck chair and swung it around and it came into contact with his arm.”

The sentencing hearing was stood down by chairman of the bench, Mr Ian Skillen, to await a Newton Hearing.

This is due to a dispute between the prosecution and the defence concerning the facts of the admitted assault charge.

Murthwaite will next appear before magistrates on Friday December 2, at 10am at Furness Magistrates’ Court.
