A WOMAN from Ulverston was airlifted to hospital in one of a series of incidents attended by an air ambulance charity.

The Great North Air Ambulance was first called to Bowness at 11.45am on Sunday after a 46-year-old man, from Preston, sustained a significant lower leg injury when he became trapped between two cars.

He was treated at the scene by the GNAAS team and North West Ambulance Service paramedics. He was given strong pain relief and flown to the Royal Preston Hospital within 17 minutes for specialist treatment.

While returning to base, the Pride of Cumbria was called to Haverthwaite near Ulverston where a 45-year-old woman, from Ulverston, had fallen from a bike and sustained facial injuries. She was assessed and treated by the GNAAS crew before being taken to Furness General Hospital by North West Ambulance Service.

On Saturday, a man was flown to hospital after sustaining a neck injury while playing rugby in Carlisle.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) was called to the incident at Carlisle Rugby Club at 3.28pm on Saturday. The 35-year-old man was assessed by the GNAAS crew and a North West Ambulance Service paramedic before being flown to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle within 20 minutes. He arrived in a stable condition.
