A TEENAGER from Ulverston has been locked up for 20 weeks and given an indefinite restraining order after attacking his own mother in front of a child.

Nathan Lee Stephen Cooper was told by magistrates in Barrow yesterday that his offending was so serious, only a custodial sentence was appropriate.

The 18-year-old, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to assaulting Lorraine Cooper, his mum, on two occasions - December 31 of last year and on Monday February 20.

Cooper also admitted causing criminal damage to his mum's Mitsubishi car, leaving a repair bill stretching to more than £640.

In justifying their sentence, magistrates said Cooper had committed offences while on bail, had attacked his mum in front of a child and has a previous history of violence and failing to comply with court orders.

Cooper must also pay a £115 victim surcharge and was given an indefinite restraining order banning him from contacting his mum or going near her home in Beech Drive in Ulverston.
