HARMFUL chemicals found during a routine police search resulted in an Ulverston street being cordoned off.

Yesterday morning around 6am (Saturday 5) police searched a house in Weston Avenue, Ulverston, following the arrest of a man on Friday night.

During the search unknown chemicals were found by officers. Specially trained members of Cumbria Fire and Rescue were called in to remove the chemicals to ensure the safety of officers.

Detective Sergeant Wayne Dixon of Barrow CID confirmed that an Ulverston male had been arrested on Friday for drugs offences, and the house search was part of an ongoing inquiry.

The man has since been released under investigation.
