A SUCCESSFUL musical theatre show organised and performed by young people has raised thousands of pounds for charity.

Ben Lewis and some of his fellow performing arts students from Ulverston Victoria High School raised more than £3,000 for Age UK South Lakeland with their highly praised show, Puttin' On The Ritz.

Seventeen-year-old Ben, who has won a place to study musical theatre at Guildford School of Acting, directed the show at the Coronation Hall, Ulverston on April 2.

The event showcased the talents of 13 to 18-year-olds Oliver Banks, Henry Chatfield, Connor Wood, Florrie Dobson and Ben.

The show was a trip through the musicals, including Ben opening the night with This is the Moment from Jekyll and Hyde, and there were also numbers such as  Annie Get Your Gun , and Puttin on the Ritz .

The evening also included tracks from Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story, Billy Elliot, Rent, Wicked, Once and Finding Neverland.

Among the showstopping highlights were Electricity from Billy Elliot, performed by singer Oliver Banks and dancer Henry Chatfield, Last Night of the World from Miss Saigon sung by Florrie and Ben and  Bring Him Home from Les Miserables sung by Connor and Ben.

The powerful finale was a performance of  The Impossible Dream sung by the talented quintet.

The team from Age UK South Lakeland have congratulated and thanked the young people for their fantastic event and fundraising.
